How to find the best Salvo rental experience:

When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanside, Dog Friendly Home with Grill, Screened Porch, and Nearby Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
