Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hatteras rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in Avon. Reserve your Hatteras vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-Friendly Waterfront Home with Free WiFi, Gas Fireplace, and Private Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
