Build a gorgeous resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers).

Back at your vacation home, you'll be greeted by a townhouse that has been completely modernized, essentially making it brand new. Everything including its floors, furnishings, appliances, and even the very paint used on the walls has been updated. On top of that, the interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower, a patio, and even an elevator. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape. Combining the ambience of home with a chic flair, you'll always remember your time here.

Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly townhouse with pool, ocean views, central AC, washer\/dryer & patio has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
