Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Booking in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and pick yourrental home:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming home with private pool, hot tub, tropical bar, AC & washer\/dryer has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
