Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental:
- Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book the right Hatteras rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Dog-friendly home w\/deck, outdoor shower, washer\/dryer, beach access, ocean view has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
