Hatteras rental home booking tips:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking the best Hatteras vacation home:

  • To start, have your family select the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Dazzling waterfront home with balconies, private pool, hot tub, & game room has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
