Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Custom, Waterfront Home w\/ Boat Ramp, Sound Views, Private Hot Tub, Shared Pool has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Hatteras attraction you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
