Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing and booking a perfect Hatteras rental:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanside, Handicap Friendly, Hot Tub, & Easy Beach Access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
