Tricks and tips to get the optimal Hatteras vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking a perfectrental:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Canalfront Dog Friendly Home w\/ Hot Tub and Boat Dock. Enjoy a Tequila Sunrise! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
