Just a few miles down the road, you can go birdwatching and discover the marshes of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge or drive to Buxton to climb the famed Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The anglers in your group will adore being so close to Cape Point where they can try their luck reeling in a big catch. To learn more about the area's impressive history, stop by the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station to learn about how water rescues were carried out long before modern technology. Rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Avon. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Carrie's Place * Avon Village * Community Pool * Handicap Accessible has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
