Tips and Tricks for getting the best Avon vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Waterfront\/Private Pier, Water Access\/Pool&Tennis club\/Kayaks\/SUP\/ping-pong has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. - Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
