Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking yourvacation home:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The “Slick” house. Prime kite boarding spot, sound side. Great sunset views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Tips for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
