How to find the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect rental home:
- Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The “Slick” house. Prime kite boarding spot, sound side. Great sunset views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Hatteras beach you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
