Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose the best Hatteras vacation home:

  • To start, have your family decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. RSR3C Sunsets Galore by First Flight Rentals has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
