Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Soundfront + Dog Friendly Home w\/ Hot Tub, Windsports Access, Private Boardwalk has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
