Vacation rental tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Soundfront corner unit just feet to the beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
