Our top Rental property booking tips:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summertime is high season in Rodanthe. To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Pet-friendly oceanfront home w\/ hot tub and amazing views! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
