Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Rodanthe. Book your Hatteras rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the rightrental:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront home on Hatteras Island with private pool & stunning views has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your family.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
