Tips for getting the best Hatteras rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Rodanthe. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Getaway in the Outer Banks! 3 night minimum for 2024 has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
