Strategies to get the optimal Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront dog-friendly home with outdoor pool, hot tub, & multiple decks has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
