How to find the best vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Luxury dog-friendly home w\/ocean view, private hot tub, pool table, washer\/dryer has 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
