About 20 mins. south of the home there are arcades, stores and places to eat in Buxton and Cape Hatteras. Buxton Beach is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 beaches in the United States!

You can also take your car on the COMPLIMENTARY ferry to Ocracoke Island to discover that island as well.
Fishing Information:
The Outer Banks is a great area for fishing! Our family took our first charter fishing trip last year and did offshore fishing. Our group of six people caught about 30 fish within a few hours. You can charter a boat for six people at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, which is a marina about 15 mins. north of the home.
There is a fish cleaning area underneath the home as well, with a sink.
Fishing at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge:
Fishing is allowed in both the ocean and sound; however, the ponds and impoundments themselves are closed to all activities. There is a fishing pier at Oregon Inlet on the north end of the refuge. Many visitors also enjoy bank fishing in Oregon Inlet from the rocky terminal groin. And, of course, there are nearly 13 miles of pristine beaches that surf fishermen may enjoy. Red drum, striped bass, spotted seatrout, and flounder are the most trendy species caught.
Fishing at the refuge is subject to North Carolina state and local regulations, licensing requirements, seasons and bag limits. The refuge is open dawn to dusk and has superb fishing year-round. Access for nighttime surf fishing from Oregon Inlet south to the village of Rodanthe is allowed with a permit September 15-May 31 annually. There is a launching area for modest boats, canoes and kayaks at New Inlet. This launch area may be periodically closed for Highway 12 maintenance; please look for the signs. Saltwater species include sharks, bluefish, spotted sea trout, flounder, red drum, spot, striped bass, weakfish, sea mullet, pompano, Spanish mackerel and croaker.
North Pond is open to fishing and crabbing during the annual Crabbing Rodeo during the second Saturday in June, 9am to noon. These three hours each year are the only time North Pond is open to fishing and crabbing. All Federal, State and local regulations apply.
PLEASE NOTE
During the Summer Months (Beginning of June through End of August) - We offer weekly bookings only, for seven nights. Check in is on Saturday at 5:00 PM, check out is on the following Saturday at 10:00 AM.
There is one exception for the summer of 2025 though, for July 12th through 17th there is a five day window that is available to be booked.

Getting the best Rodanthe vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer time is high season in Rodanthe. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the perfect Hatteras rental:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Elegant Updated Oceanfront Home w\/ Pool & Hot Tub - Dog Friendly! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
