Build a handsome resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest condos to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor, cooled by pleasant central air conditioning. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Getting the best vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hatteras restaurants and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly ocean view townhouse w\/ central AC, private W\/D, & pool access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. message the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
