Strategies to get the very best Hatteras vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and picking a perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Inviting home between the ocean & sound with private pool, hot tub & deck has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
