Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best vacation rental:

  • Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Cove-front home with rooftop deck, boat dock, water views, & A\/C has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras beach you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
