Rodanthe is the first town after the Bonner Bridge, located on the northern end of Hatteras Island. This cozy village is the ideal setting for a laid back, slower-paced vacation while still having amenities and dining options close by. Right across Hwy 12 you'll find a coffee shop and pizzeria, both within walking distance. There's also Rodanthe Watersports, where you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and more for exploring the Pamlico Sound.

Please note that the daily effects of winds, waves, tides and storms have contributed to coastal erosion impacts at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, particularly adjacent to the villages of Rodanthe and Buxton. The effects of erosion in these towns result in dynamic and unpredictable changes to the dune line, which may unexpectedly affect beach access. Guests may need to utilize alternate beach access points during their stay.

Family Animals allowed - dogs only. No smoking/vaping.

Strategies for getting the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Rodanthe. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hatteras vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Hot Tub
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.

  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.

  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
