Our top Avon rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your Hatteras vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Single-level home on a canal with 2 screened porches - near town and beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Hatteras beach you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
