How to find the best Hatteras rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Salvo. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- To start, have your group agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Renovated home - walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
