Given the small size and relative isolation of Hatteras Island, it's hard to image that the small collection of towns can accommodate just about anyone, including and especially high flyers who visit the Outer Banks by airplane. But surprisingly, Hatteras Island is home to its own airport, the Billy Mitchell Airport, and though small in size and limited in facilities, visitors to this Frisco oceanside airstrip will find more or less everything they need, surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery on the Outer Banks, and with a few extra amenities that are an unexpected benefit to Hatteras Island newcomers.

Also provides clam digging trips to cool off in the heat of the summer, The Black Pearl is a 27′ C Hawk 225HP outboard engine. You’ll find it provides an exceptionally powerful ride for an exceptional well-built boat. It was built here in North Carolina, and has a tower to make it easy to find the fish. All Coast Guard required equipment is on-board. Navigation electronics to get us to the secret spots time after time. The Black Pearl includes a Jack-Plate to get into the shallower water to fill our cooler. You are welcome to bring your personal tackle on your trip to the back-country fishing of the shallow flats of the Pamlico Sound out of Hatteras or near shore fishing grounds. Camp Hatteras Resort features over 400 sites with concrete pads, which include all the convieniences you need in a full hook-up site while enjoying your family vacation at the beach. Located at milepost 40.5 on NC12 between Rodanthe and Waves, Camp Hatteras caters to any number of travellers. The pinnacle of fishing on the Outer Banks, however, is and has always been Cape Point. Ask any long-time Hatteras Island fisherman about Cape Point, and they'll gladly tell you about incredible catches, near-misses, and the occasional vehicle getting stuck in the deep, shifting sands.

Club Hatteras is available free to all guests who vacation with Hatteras Realty. The Club has the largest swimming pool on the island, along with a 6-hole putting green, a kids’ playground and two regulation tennis courts.It offers early arrivers a great way to begin their vacation even before check in. While you’re waiting on your rental to be ready, you can be swimming in the pool or lounging and surfing the net poolside. Even after checking out, you can turn in your keys and still enjoy an afternoon at the beach, then a shower and change of clothes at the Club before heading home in much less traffic.There’s also an on-site concession stand with sandwiches, snow cones, ice cream, snacks, favorite beverages and often-needed supplies. As an extra attraction, Club Hatteras offers a number of programs and activities mostly at the Avon office, including subjects like coastal cooking and local “history & mystery.“ Watercolor classes and kids activities are available for a very reasonable fee, and other activities, including Aerobics at the pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays, are free.The Club’s tennis courts, putting green and playground are open year round. The heated Jr. Olympic Pool is open mid-May through mid-October.Hatteras Realty says that without Club Hatteras, ‘it’s just not a vacation.”

If you are looking for some great family fun while taking a break from the beach, don’t miss a visit to Frisco Mini Golf and Go-Karts. Here visitors can choose between two go-kart tracks – one slick track for more advanced drivers and one family track with single and double karts. Kiddie karts are also available for children 5 years old and younger. After racing around the track, head over to the bumper cars and test your driving ability. Riders must be more than 48” and can be any age. No trip to the beach is complete without a round of miniature golf. At Frisco Mini Golf and Go-Karts, golfers can show off their skill with an 18-hole championship course in a natural environment with waterfalls and goldfish ponds. Looking for some food while having all this fun? Head over to the concession stand for your choice of hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, chips, cotton candy, snow cones, soft ice cream, milkshakes, drinks and more. Mini Golf is $8 per person and children under six are free. Go-Kart rides are $9 and bumper cars are $5. Kiddie cars are also $5. Gift certificates and a large selection of shirts and sweatshirts with the park’s logo are available on-line. The Good Times leaves at dawn and returns by 4 or 5 p.m. for at least six hours of prime-time fishing. Powered by a 700 HP Lugger, the Good Times can cruise at more than 20 knots and holds up to six passengers. A large cockpit is equipped with a custom fighting chair and two companion chairs. The air-conditioned salon has ample seating and storage. Families, children, first-time anglers and pros are all welcome on board. One thing is for sure. More than 2,000 shipwrecks sunk off the Coast of North Carolina in what’s called the Graveyard of the Atlantic. With all that history floating around, it was only natural to build a museum to honor and preserve the maritime culture of the Outer Banks. A state-of-the-art structure, the year round museum houses and displays artifacts, and presents a variety of exhibits and interprets the rich maritime culture that includes war, piracy, ghost ships and more. Artifacts include thoseex from the USS Monitor, which sank 16 miles off the Hatteras coast. The lobby features the stunning and original, 1854, First Order Lens from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Current hibits include those on piracy and the Civil War on Hatteras Island.

Visitors in the need of a little action-packed fun can head to the tri-villages’ newest destination for entertainment, Highway 12 Amusements. Officially opening in 2017, this expansive indoor amusement center has a variety of games and attractions to keep visitors fully engrossed and active all day long.

The Outer Banks is regarded as kiteboarding paradise, with miles of waist deep water and consistent thermal winds, making for the best kiting conditions in the world, and one of the safest locations for newbie kiteboarders. Kite Club Hatteras’s certified IKO instructors teach kiteboarding according to the International Kiteboarding Organization’s methodology and have seen all levels of kiteboarders come through and progress with the program. The new Kite Club Hatteras boat has brought the school’s lessons to an increased level of ease and safety by  taking students to the best locations for learning and for assisted downwinders once students get up on and riding on the board and traveling downwind.

The Beach Klub at Koru Village in Avon is the only venue of its kind on Hatteras Island.
