Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best rental home in Hatteras:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, dog-friendly condo with ocean view, central AC & WiFi has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
