Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Budget Modern 1 BRM\/1 bath has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hatteras beach you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
