How to book the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summer is high season in Salvo. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfectrental:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dune Horizon: Oceanside, Saltwater Pool, Rec Room has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
