Hatteras rental property booking tips:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To book the largest rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cabana—Hatteras National Seashore has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. text the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
