Our top Hatteras vacation rental booking tips:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the best Hatteras vacation home:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Cabana—Hatteras National Seashore has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
