How to book the best rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hatteras area:

  • First and foremost, have your family select the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Brand New Home in Frisco has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
