Vacation rental booking tips:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Bubba's Cottage, Charming Oceanfront A-frame 2-min walk over dunes to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
