Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Waterfront home on the sound with private dock, hot tub, decks & amazing views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
