We live upstairs, have two young kids and a very friendly 40lb dog, you will hear us but we try to be respectful of our guests. We spend most of our nice days away from the home appreciating the island. I have chickens to tend to in the backyard so our paths are likely to cross. Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Get the best value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Swell Suite Apartment, Private, One block to beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Hatteras beach you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
