How to find the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing and booking your Hatteras vacation home:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Entire Top floor of DVO Surf Shop with ocean and sound views from private deck. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
