Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. RSR2B Pamlico Vista by First Flight Rentals has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Hatteras attraction you crave, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
